For over 70 years, my client has been providing quality renovation and repair services and specialty products to the railway industry.  They specialize in repairs of all freight car types, including tank cars! Strategically located rail repair facilities offer a variety of services and unsurpassed dedication to servicing customers quickly and efficiently.  

The primary function of the Director of Sales role is to expand the freight car repair and parts fabrication business by working with target customers throughout the US and Canada. The Director of Sales will carry a considerable key account management load and will make sales calls on existing and new accounts. The Director will represent the company to the customer and the customer to the company in all sales-oriented activities to include Sales Proposals, Quoting, Contract Management and Administration, Sales Strategy development and Marketing.
Primary duties of this position will be as follows:
  • Work closely with senior management to develop and guide overall sales effort
  • Key account management
  • Work closely with key accounts and shop personnel to facilitate problem resolution and improve customer service
  • Assist with the development of annual sales strategy, follow-up with execution of strategy 
  • Coordinate participation in industry events and associations
  • Maintain regular Chicago office hours when not travelling
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum eight years of sales/marketing experience in the railroad industry (preferably rail car leasing or component supplier background)
  • Greater Chicago area candidates preferred
  • Proven sales abilities, excellent communication and organization skills, and timely reporting on sales activities are critical to success
  • High degree of integrity
  • Ability to analyze business opportunities and make recommendations aligning with current business strategies
  • Be able to manage accounts from an operational perspective along with warranty, marketing and car management
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and able to report detailed findings based on observations in the field
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Public speaking for presentations and meetings required
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 50%
